BUSY DAY FOR HTK MEDIA - On the Road in Texas. Plus Quick Hits Including Tiger

This week HTK MEDIA is on the road. Spending a few days in Dallas-Fort Worth to see family and also visit a few potential clients in the area for "media enhancement." I could call it media training.. but I really don't profess to know everything about everything. I think what HTK MEDIA does is take a university or professional team and enhance what they do with the media. Obviously everyone can answer questions. What we try to do is help them answer questions with a purpose. How do you take your window of opportunity and make it worth something? To you, to the school, to the team, to the community.
Univ. North Texas.. ready for Clemson?
Today, I visited with University of North Texas. The Mean Green was about ready for practice when I showed up for a meeting with the men in charge of Media Relations and Athletic "Direction." Eric Capper and Rick Villareal could not have been more hospitable. We talked about the importance of treating each interview as an "opportunity" and not just an obligation. North Texas is a program on the rise... exactly the type of program that HTK MEDIA is working to create relationships with. We want - and they want - their athletes to understand the power that the spoken word has for a school that gets limited exposure compared to bigger programs. Coach Todd Dodge spent a few minutes with me as well. I think we're onto something. Always important to get the coaches on your side - realizing that there is an opportunity to build something by delivering the right message.
Yep.. its HTK MEDIA talking with Rangers
From there, it was off to The Ballpark at Arlington and the Texas Rangers contest with the Oakland A's. Media Relations Director Rich Rice has been a contact for a few years now.. dating back to 2005 when my son had the good fortune to be a bat boy for the Rangers at Spring Training. The focus with the Rangers is the same as we work to create with every major league team - the minor league prospects. Who better to sell the organization than those who will make stops at various levels along the way to the big leagues. Every team has two or three prospects that will climb the charts quickly. John Blake has been around the block in Media Relations for a few teams. He's also the Director of Broadcasting for Texas. We shared many ideas. We'll see where we go. I think it has great potential.
All in all.. a good day for HTK MEDIA. Hire the Knowledge to Have the Knowledge. We'll see where it goes from here.

Other Quick Hits

* Let's hope Manny Ramirez embraces the White Sox opportunity. If he wants to play next year - it will be in the A.L. ... so might as well make an impact now for a contract later.

* USA Today poll is out for football. Why is Ohio State always so high? Nowhere to go but down. Which always leaves them in position to be a huge disappointment - not fair.

* Stephen Strasburg - how sad is that. Another power arm loses power quickly.

The agent gets the big deal and then the big deal goes on the shelf for at least a year. Huge blow for the Nationals and MLB.

* Tiger Woods is number one for at least another week as Mickelson falters at Barclays. Tough timing for Phil - again. He should have been number one weeks ago! And this week he was playing in a tournament sponsored by his sponsor - Barclays.

* Jerry Reinsdorf (owner of White Sox and Bulls) calls columnist Jay Mariotti a "pissant." In this case.. I think both men could use HTK MEDIA for some "enhancement" or media training.
