Weekend Thoughts - Chart a Positive Course

So what's the focus this weekend?  College Football?  Jeez, could we get enough great games on the week 2 schedule or what!  Maybe its the NFL that has you revved up.  The Saints are 1-0 and its time for everyone to catch em', dethrone em' and change em' to the "Who was Dat Nation."

By the way... for some reason, I like San Francisco this year as a surprise in the NFC and Houston to be an actual factor this season as well.  Super Bowl?  How about Green Bay vs Baltimore.  Just a hunch - but what do I know... I cover Tiger Woods and the PGA TOUR for a big part of my living.

Here's what I'm thinking going to the weekend.  I'm focused on a new plan.  Better ways to be better at what I do.  Better ways to make an impact in my profession.  Better efforts to make those around me better in what they do.  Better efforts NOT to take life so seriously.  I firmly believe that in life.. you only get out of it what you put into it.  But sometimes,I've found and seen that when you put so much into it... there's too much frustration when the littlest of things doesn't pan out.

I've read a great book about how to be "indispensable" in your work environment.  How to challenge yourself to think outside the box, how to go beyond what is expected.  It's interesting actually, at how many times I find myself wondering why so many are so focused only on themselves.  Chances are, there's somebody sitting next to you at work, or at a football game, or in your own house that could certainly use a little "pick me up" and a vibe that you'll do something to make them better.  And in the end... isn't it the impact you make on others what really makes you feel good about you?

Hey, I'm no shrink.  I'm certainly not perfect. But look around, and you'll actually see people making mistakes all around you.  So do you pick them up and praise them for their positive skills and efforts?  OR do you talk about their mistakes and their misfortune?

In sports, there's a saying that goes something like this ... "if you don't feel like practicing, ok.  But somewhere, somebody is practicing harder than you.  Eventually, you'll find that person, and he will beat you."

My new focus, is on changing my goals.  Practice to change the things I can really affect.  Leave the things I can't control, alone.  In other words... don't beat myself.

The television business, as I've seen recently, can be a tough one on a lot of people.  But its no different than any other place of employment... where the goals are same for most.  Get an opportunity, make the most of it, give the best of yourself, and let the rest go.  Ultimately, its the people around you who mean the most, not the job itself.

So those are my big thoughts for the day.  I figure my Missouri Tigers will handle McNeese State with little trouble.  I figure my White Sox are about toast - though I'm hoping for a sweep of the Twins in the near future. And I figure Matt Kuchar will keep his good thing going.  Beyond that... today I have nothing... but a goal.  Be Better Myself.. and make life for those around me Better.  See how I feel on Monday!
