Should U.S. Captains Re-think Vice-Captain Choices? Aye, Aye!

Garcia - Experience as Assistant

As I watched Europe win the Ryder Cup.. not only was I riveted to Colin Montgomerie, but I was also drawn to his assembled cast of assistants.  Darren Clarke, Thomas Bjorn, Sergio Garcia and the "late add" Jose Maria Olathabal.
Each man... a star in his own country.. and each man... a big part of Europe's Ryder Cup history.  Among them.. there's fire, there's passion and experience.
As the American team moves forward.. why not go the same route. Sergio didn't make the team.. neither did Anthony Kim... add him. David Duval needs a pick-me-up like Bjorn... add him.  What's wrong with Kenny Perry on the sidelines... or Fred Couples.. or Calcavecchia.
Trevino as Vice-Captain?
Want to take it a step further.. Raymond Floyd.. every day of the week.  Lanny Wadkins... sure...  or... here's a thought. What about Lee Trevino!
Hey.. this is NOT an assault on what's been... just trying to make a difference going forward. Remember... as it turned out the United States only needed a HALF a point to keep the cup.  Could an all-star line-up of assistants have been enough of a motivator to make a half a points difference?  Maybe.  Actually, I say probably.        So message to Davis Love III... or whoever the next captain becomes........ let's keep friendships intact... but let's think about impact.  Who can motivate?  Who's been under the pressure cooker that Hunter Mahan was in?  And lastly... who says Jack and Arnie wouldn't want to be a part of it at Medinah????
By the way... just got off the phone with Paul Azinger who was driving into the parking lot at the Tampa Bay Rays playoff game with the Texas Rangers.  On the topic of Davis Love III as the next captain.  He said, "The next captain, I think, is Davis Love III.  I think he's the most logical choice."      So there you go.  Let's see what happens.
