Friendly "Confined" - A Field of Nightmares Today

C'mon... are we really going to see every offensive play go one way today at Wrigley Field?  How many commercial breaks are we going to need while players "change sides?"  I can hear the official now... "Hold on Northwestern... OK Illinois... turn around and set your offense."
Did organizers "zone out?"
Didn't the Bears used to play at Wrigley?  Sure, I know that some of the seats that were removable during the old days are now permanent seats under today's Wrigley Field configuration.  But, didn't we think about this before?
Who authorized it?  Who was in charge of the "site survey?"
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the idea... but the logistics make this thing a bad idea.  Sure makes the seats in the outfield a bad call - "Hey Stub Hub... can I get a refund?"
Think about it... there was no net behind the goal post in the outfield... which would have turned the football "bleacher bums" into a band of crazies in this bandbox or shall we say shoebox of a retro-fit football field.
Won't see any field goals here!
The east end zone's only action today will be a kick-off that might result in a touchback... as touchdowns won't occur.  So it's "Go West Young Men, Go West."
It's been more than 70 years since a college football game was played at Wrigley... 1938 to be exact.  Northwestern and Illinois have a lot to play for today... Northwestern trying to increase it's Bowl Game stature... and Ron Zook trying to keep his stature as Illinois coach, perhaps.
In the end, I understand the idea of safety first.  It makes sense.  What I don't understand - at all - is that it took everyone so long to figure out that the configuration wouldn't work.
Fans have already been talking about the number of "bad seats" for today's game... and many of those fans remember seeing Bear games at Wrigley.
How's the view from Left Field?
Let's hope this doesn't turn into a television nightmare... because somebody's dream of bringing football back to the Home of the Cubs has been in hibernation for a very good reason.  By the way... wonder how the rooftop sales are going?
