"Scam" Newton? - This is NOT Going Away

Who's in bigger trouble here?  Cam Newton, his Dad Cecil Newton St. - an Atlanta-area pastor, or Gene Chizik-  the Auburn Head Football Coach?  Answer.... all of the above.  But add in the NCAA which is being dragged through the mud yet again with an issue that screams at the need for reform.
How Does He Focus?
Chizik has called the new allegations against his quarterback "garbage."  But what could be trashed forever is a dream season that currently has Auburn at 10-0 and headed toward a possible national championship.  Also tarnished are the reputations of player and coach - no matter what the outcome of recent allegations that Newton's recruitment after transferring from Florida.  Was it really all about "pay for play?"
Private student records are also hanging in the balance as some have accused Newton of academic issues and possible cheating while at Florida.  In November of 2008, Newton was charged with burglary, larceny and obstruction of justice.  At the time, he was at the end of a redshirt second season with the Gators.
This whole thing has blown up - big time!  Today... reports are swirling that Mississippi State declined to participate in a game of "pay for play" that is now tied to Newton's recruitment upon transferring.  Six figure numbers are being attached to his arrival at Auburn.
Yet... none of this is confirmed.... but all of it being investigated.  Newton is trying to steer clear of the firestorm... Chizik is playing a game of dodge ball and Mississippi State is sitting pretty (by its standards) at 7-2 while playing Alabama this weekend in a game that could be a signal of complete turnaround for the Bulldog program under Dan Mullen.  Mississippi State doesn't have Newton.  Auburn does.  And while Auburn wouldn't trade records, they sure might trade reputations in a hurry.
This is bad news for College Football.  Further proof that big business is not good for the game or the kids or the coaches.  Money really does ruin a lot of things and a lot of people.  And you know what else is suddenly starving for some good public relations?  How about the Heisman Trophy.... which was stripped from Reggie Bush after an investigation about issues while at USC.  And now its Newton... the front-runner for the Heisman.
I love college sports.  College Football is something I live for each year.  How fast can it get here - right?  Here's where somebody needs to step in for good... do something to create the end to chaos.  What exactly? I don't know.  There's a big conference coming up in NYC in early December for NCAA Athletic Directors.  Think it won't come up?
Answer these questions.... Should Cam Newton be eligible for the Heisman?  Should Auburn stand up and tell the truth now?  How many people really will go down if all of this is true?  How bad will it be for College Football?
Lot's more press conferences on the horizon and many more questions.  Winning a BCS National Championship is tough enough.... now try navigating your way through all of this.  And we thought Brad Childress had it bad?
