Tough to PRESS Tiger in Press Conferences - And Other Items of Note

As a member of the media for 25 years, golf specific for the last 16... I've been to... and seen my fair share of press conferences... and listened to my fair share of questions.
The collection offered to Tiger on Tuesday was dreadful..and so were the answers.  When the best quote from Woods is "me too"... which was zinged at us after being reminded that Rory McIlroy wanted a piece of Tiger this week.... we've got a problem.
Revealing?  No Thanks.
This year on the course... his game's been out of control.  But in the media room.. he's never out of control.  Try as you might... but he won't bite.  Want to make him look bad?  Good luck.  He did that to himself... so he's certainly not going to let the media add to it.  Bottom line... Tiger plays the media game of dodge-ball better than anyone.
So what's the point?  The questions don't get the comments... the comments don't give us any insight.  My point with the media group isn't that we don't know HOW to ask questions... its just that he doesn't give us any answers that are trustworthy or substantial.  The Ryder Cup probably isn't the place to break new media center ground with Woods - after all, these guys are more secretive than the Pentagon about things that really shouldn't need to be so secretive.
This game of "Tiger and Mice" has gotten old... it's not entertaining to watch.  So here's my final question... who's worse in this?  The people asking the questions... or the guy who's not answering them? That's for you to decide.

A few other things ....

* Did you see where Cal is dropping baseball (among 5 athletic teams) to help the school save money?  According to the USA Today article... the cuts will save up to $4 million in the 2011-2012 school year.  The number of athletic teams will drop from 29-24, 163 athletes will be affected and 13 full-time coaches.  The Bears have made the College World Series 10 times.  My take - ridiculous testament to the state of affairs in college athletics.  College football coaches are making salaries above $2 million in many instances.   College football is dominating the landscape - period.  I get it... but there's got to be a way to keep other sports in place.  When a PAC 10 baseball program goes away... we need to change things and do it quickly.

* The FedEx Cup Playoffs are over.  LPGA ... tag, you're it!  Seven events left on the schedule, five of them are overseas.  Time for the ladies to make a splash.  A fast finish would do the tour some good going into the off-season.

* Reds and Rays in the World Series perhaps?  One team hasn't filled the playoff field in 15 years and they did it on a walk off home run.  The Rays are going to the playoffs for the second time in three years... and the players are upset that the fans aren't walking in to the stadium.  The Rays are a sad situation.  So many reasons the fans don't show up... but St. Petersburg is filled with retirees on fixed incomes who don't want to stay up past 10pm.... and others don't want to travel across from Orlando during rush hour to get there by game time.  Build a stadium on the east side of downtown Tampa and the whole thing changes.

* Brett Favre... talking about how he and his receivers are starting to get on the right page.  Wasn't that supposed to take place at training camp?  No complaints accepted from Favre.  Everything on his terms doesn't always lead to a Super Bowl on his terms.  Period.
